Now, I have seen pictures of large red tails in the wild. These tended to be lean however.
If you want something that will remain small, go for a Sonoran, Nicaraguan, or El SAlvador. If you want something slightly bigger, go for a Hog Island, or Boa constrictor longicauda. If you want something that will potentially get to 10ft, get a red tail or Common. They will both end up around the same size, however a red tail will be leaner and will take longer to achieve that length.
Males of all subspecies will be smaller in general also.
