Default hognose!

2 questions.

1.what temp shell i have my hognose on of a night time im using a ministat?

2.when i go to pick my hognose up he really does hiss and it makes me jump lol will he always do this or do they eventually calm down???i only got him today shell i leave him to settle in?

I picked up my little hoggie yesterday afternoon and despite my hands twitching to hold him I staying hands-off for at least a week or so till he's fed at least once and pooped.

let the hoggy settle for awhile so he gets used to new surroundings. dont want to put you off but one of my hoggys who ive had for bout 8 months is horrible lol hisses and lot when i try pick him up hes even struck at me few times. but then i have another one which doesnt mind being handled at all.

ok.dont worry you aint putting me off hes struck at me once today (mouth closed) but the thing i was holdin him in the pet shop he was so so so calm in my hands got him home hes gone all mad lol yeah ill let him settle im going to try him on a mouse tomarrow see how it goes...so what temps do you keep your hognoses on?

Since you held him in the pet shop his entire surroundings have changed, little guy is probably scared witless right now. Mine has suceeded in making himself a burrow in the aspen and establishing with me that it is indeed his (loudly with much puffing up). I'm keeping his temps mid/high 80's warm end low 80's cool.

yeah true i suppose ill leave him for a few days...thats the temps i have mine at so shell i just keep them at that no need to change them at night time?

yeah the times mine has struck its had mouth cloed but god it does shock you lol. its funny though to see him go bout 3 times bigger when he flattens. as for feeding if u only had him a day then me myself would leave it 5 - 7 days before trying to feed then he should have setled down more by then.

my temps read between 80-85

I not actually dropping temps at night. He seems to be laying half on half off the heated section to sleep.

thats ok if he got to hot or to cold he should move. as long as they have a cold and warm spot he will be fine.

love hoggies they are such funny things. u will have lots of joy with urs and i meant to say congrats on your newbie

yeah earlier i had my hand right by him i was like o yes hes not hissing at me now next thing i know his head goes flat and starts hissing and strikng thing is it makes you jump really bad becuase you dont expect it lol well what it is the pet shop i got it from said it was due a feed todayand they said try it abit later but i thought id leave it for today to settle in then try it but i suppose a few more days would be best
