Can i use local newspaper for snake substrate? i heard about the ink and what not, but is it really that bad? and also heard if you leave it out for a week, the ink dries up?
is the newspaper safe to use, and not be burnt by the heat mat?
Many people use newspaper for their snakes so am sure it's perfectly safe to use. Personally I am using kitchen roll for my corn, MBK and boa and aspen for my hoggie.
I use newspaper for all my snakes, and i know many people who have used it for years with no problem. You can buy it from fish and chip shops with no ink for quite cheap it also looks nicer =]
I used nothing but newspaper for 15+ years and had no problems whatsoever , these days I use aspen or Auboise purely for aesthetics but newspaper is fine and it gives your snakes something to read :2thumb:
never use local newspaper , thats for local snakes !!!
i see from your sig that you have an american snake ?
you will have to import an american newspaper for use as its sub .
hope this helps ?

I've also heard about the ink being harmful to reptiles, but never seen anything to back it up, so i call BS I use orchid bark for my snakes. Never had any problem, for example mites, but if i ever did i've heard about baking & freezing to kill mites, One or the other not both lol..
Also been using newspaper for hatchlings and breeding (Can get a little messy) Hope this helps mate
