Can i use local newspaper for snake substrate? i heard about the ink and what not, but is it really that bad? and also heard if you leave it out for a week, the ink dries up?
is the newspaper safe to use, and not be burnt by the heat mat?

I used nothing but newspaper for 15+ years and had no problems whatsoever , these days I use aspen or Auboise purely for aesthetics but newspaper is fine and it gives your snakes something to read :2thumb:

I've also heard about the ink being harmful to reptiles, but never seen anything to back it up, so i call BS ;) I use orchid bark for my snakes. Never had any problem, for example mites, but if i ever did i've heard about baking & freezing to kill mites, One or the other not both lol..
Also been using newspaper for hatchlings and breeding (Can get a little messy) ;) Hope this helps mate
