Hi,

I remember that.

He was lucky.

If the problem had been a twisted oviduct he would have torn the girl apart inside and likely killed her manipulating the second egg like that.

Aspirating the first egg would have been a much more sensible approach - especially as he could get to it without having to puncture the snakes sides to do it (and possibly causing an infection).

It was a good video. Definitely worrying as this is the problem I have with my female right now!

If people took the steps needed to prevent egg binding, this would not be an issue.

Gregg believes egg binding is (f I remember correctly from a previous post) entirely down to husbandry, and not down to biology. I assume that by "steps needed" he means provide a suitable nesting box or similar.

Think we shall have to differ on that one then!

In the wild...... Nah only joking! You don't need to kick a kitten! I've never seen a royal in the wild egg bound or not!

Egg binding is almost alwags the result of bad husbandry. There is so much more new info out there as far as proper husbandry goes but for some strange reason many keepers are not catching on. It is a very rare thing for egg binding to be a problem based on the females biology. I have not had a female get egg bound in well over ten years. That is a few hundred females of many species. Egg binding is not something that is reported to happen naturally in reptiles. It is a problem that happens only in captivity.

Steps to prevent egg binding....

Make sure your snakes are well hydrated.

Offer proper nesting.

When your snakes are laying or about to lay, leave fhem alone. Do not keep checking on them. Most snakes take up to 12 hours to lay an entire clutch.
