Default Why did my snake just bite me?

Desert Kingsnake bout 18 months old. Just tried to take him out of his tank and he bit me about 5 times, quite agitated. Then bit again as I was closing the tank. Could it be because ...

  1. He hadn't been handled for over a week
  2. He had just woken up
  3. Family members had visited and were crowding his tank
  4. He should be handled more / isn't been handled often enough to be used to it. He was handled more previously and was always docile.
  5. He was hungry
Any or all of the above / none of the above / other reasons

Any help greatly appreciated.

Or it could just be cos he is a king and they all seem to go through phases where they intend to eat every single human being they come into contact with.

OR one of your list. OR all of them.
Carlie, Wolflore, badwool and 4 others like this.

Could be for the hell of it. I find my carpet python just bites me for no reason. Some snakes hate being picked up but soon as they are all the aggression goes

Thanks folks. He's not due a shed, just had one a fortnight ago.

In terms of body language what would the warning signs he's agitated or "bitey"?

lift their front third of their body into like an s shape is the most one, when you touch them they like twitch kind of thing (like doing it to get u of them), moving away from you etc etc.
