Default Collection, hobby or just pets?

Are your creatures (inverts, reps, exotics, etc.) a 'collection' or are they your pets?

I don't think there's anything wrong with either one of these, as long as you're looking after them properly, I am merely curious! I know a lot of people sell and swap their creatures for various reasons; I know some people don't name them like they would 'normal' pets. So do more people have pets or a collection... Or do some of you consider it as both?

All lizards of mine are named and considered pets, as is my first tarantula, however the other tarantulas are seen as a small collection and do not have names

Pets, not a fan of the word 'collection' something about it just doesn't sit right with it for me. Although I have used the term myself when talking about them.

I would call them pets. I did the whole "buy lots then keep changing my mind about what I want" thing when I first got into keeping them. I think that's common because there are so many lovely ones to choose from. I bought and sold quite a lot, then settled on just keeping a handful. The ones I have now are favourites and will very likely stay.

My collection includes both "pets" and "specimens". My soppy Royals and Boa constrictor have names and are handled a lot, same with the rescued Leopard geckos, Bosc and Bearded Dragon. If an animal knows its name, it is certainly a pet.

However, certain other snakes are at the other end of the spectrum! Similarly, it would be ridiculous to call my Heteroscodra maculata a "pet", however much attention is lavished on its enclosure.

In summary, it doesn't matter what you call it, so long as you look after it!

pets because they are living things that need you to supply food water and warmth and love (ha ha ha we all do or we would not have them and be on here)

a collection is a number of things that seen but no touched
