Being she's a 2009 female i'd say she is in breeding mode (she would technically be big enough to breed this season). Just offer her food every few weeks & weigh her once a month & keep an eye on any weight loss. She'll start feeding again once she's ready.

Yeah, funny time of year for Royals.

I have had my Pastel for a year now. Oddly, he ate his first meal since August 9th, on New Years Day. He might have fed a couple of weeks earlier, but I wanted to be sure. Left the tail on the tongs:D

Thanks Peeps,

I wasnt sure if she was just being grumpy,

although she's a 2009 she only weighing in at just under 600g so she
has a long way to go before she's at breed-able weight.

she has fed ok for me since i got her at te Kidder Show
and ive been feeding her 1 weaner Rat every Week.

Should i up i to 2 a week as i feel she is very under weight if at breedable age.

shouldnt she be near 1500g. or am i a year early.

It's good to spot threads like this as it helps to alleviate small worries you have as a newer keeper. Cheers OP, my first winter with a Royal female too. She's about 750g. : victory:

that does sound VERY light for a 09 female now.... are you sure its not a 10?? if not my personal opinion is that snake has been very much under fed. what size rodent are you feeding her and how often?

Mines a late '10 at 750g, she was a late starter on the feeding. She's caught up a bit and passed a couple of her clutch mates ;)

600g did seem a little small for a snake that is at the least a year older than mine.

i bet some people have some 11' that are heavier than 600g

deffinately some issues in the feeding department if it deffinately is an 09

The Label on her says 2009
and i weighed her when i got home and she was 538g
Now she is 585g

Feeding 1 weaner rat every 7 days.

maybe she in shed, have not noticed any fading or smokey eyes
but she was in here water bowl for a while and now hidden away.

now I'm worried she is well under weight.

viv temps are 30-31 hot end..... 23 cool end

If she is underweight my advice would be to feed her every 5 days, just to get her up to a healthier weight and then go back to every 7 -10 days

Get a picture of her up on here. Folk will soon tell you if she's underweight or not. Some just grow slowly. She may well have been a poor/force feeder for quite a time, hence the slow start. How long have you had her?

What size are the weaners you are feeding her? I would feed her on a large weaner every 5 days to get some weight on her, then as someone said drop her back to every 7 days once she's growing well :2thumb:. My 09 female is just shy of 1500g & breeding this season & she's been a sod to feed (in 2010 she only fed 8 times in an 8 month period).

my babies only take a few days but she been like grumpy for 10 days and only now going smokey.?

Mine takes about to weeks to go to blue and then about a week or two to actually shed. Or at least it seems that way!

3 of my 4 2009 are being picky at the moment. I have put it down the time of year. Is a pain though was hoping to breed them and they all stopped at around 1300g just hoping they start soon so I can get them brewing later in the season.

Same here. Im not waiting very patiently though. Its killing me !! God know what i will be like with eggs in the cooker.
