I have a build up of algue in my turtle tank. I clean the decor and tank regually but still stays. I have heard live plants help as i dont already have live plants but is this true and wont my turtle eat them all?
god filtration and aeration help, as do regular water changes. Live plants are great - some turtles destroy them some dont. I have moss balls, and frogbit also some candoia and my turt seems to leave them alone.
Lighting and tank position in the room also makes a differnce, keep the tank in the darkest part of the room with no direct or reflected sunlight, and confine the tank lighting to the basking area as far as possible.
Excessive algae may also be a sign of poor water quality, algae loves nitrates.
