Hi I have a painted agama. I'm not exactly sure how old he is but I'm pretty sure he's a baby or juvenile because he seems to still be growing. Currently he gets fed about 2 crickets a day and a small salad a few times a week. However, every day after feeding time he waits for more and even tracks the tongs as I put them away. He seems smaller than some other painted agamas I've seen. Everytime I see a painted agama either in a photo or in the lizard shop or in a photo they seem to either be around his size or noticeably bigger? BTW he is a male if that matters for feeding or size. Thanks for the help in advance:)

As above, throw a load of crickets in there and let him help himself, this is how all lizards should be fed. They also enjoy locusts.
Then offer salad twice a week.

This is what we originally did, but with this method he would sometimes get some substrate. Also the bugs would seem to bother him at night. I don't know if that's normal tho.

Hi, I personally would not leave crickets in the enclosure overnight, they may well chew on the lizard while it sleeps. I would also change the substrate for a topsoil/playsand mix @ a ratio of approx. 50/50%, the substrate needs to be at least several inches deep.. You can get the topsoil and playsand in Home Depot/similar.
