Hi i have got a boa constrictor and the person that i brought him of said that he just put the food in a box with the snake and left him?
I thort that if its a constrictor they are sapose to strike and constric the food
Can any one help????
Not all snakes will strike feed. I have a Brazilian Rainbow Boa who for the first 6 months had to be assisted, then for the last year she's had food left in with her. She's only started to strike these last couple of weeks.
I wouldn't worry too much about it, as long as the snake is eating and is healthy that's all that counts
None of my pythons n boas strike feed all are fed this way the boas just go over and swallow, the pythons tend to slowly pick it up and wrap around but not for constricting more to get it in a position for swallowing.
I just do this because a royal striking is cute an African Rock striking is a brown pants situation.
some of my boas strike and constric some prefare food to be left and one of them prefares to bit the mid section drag it around the viv smere blood up the walls pull all the legs and tail off then swallow it
you could wiggle the food about as mentioned above but i think in the end it can be better if you don't get your boa to strike feed cuz of the above mentioned pants, you don't want it to be snappy when it gets big
I dont get the whole thing of people wanting their snakes to strike feed, aslong as it feeds then that is all that matters...and trust me it is brown pantie time when you have a big boa strike feeding.
This is where you are wrong, yes in the wild they do, but they are hunting live prey.
If your boa is happy not strike feeding but is feeding why mess around with it ? There is alot of people with problem feeders on here that would love to have a snake just eat and really couldnt care if it struck or not, I personally think you should be grateful your snake feeds regardless of if it strikes or not.
What do you mean by other area? I got my female as a strike feeder who was fed in her viv and opening the viv was pretty hairy as she would instantly think my hand was food and end up head butting the glass. Now she is baby tame and is fed in a large rub type container. She doesn't strike when food is about and also know there is never food inside her viv so there is no reason for her to strike when I open the viv.
if he is happy in his viv/etc then just drop his food in n give him a little privacy, if he is hungry and well he should nom it up though he might take a little while doing it
I don't tub feed any of my snakes, unless they are sharing a viv of course, and then I seperate to feed. thats only 2 out of about 50 at the moment though, everything else gets fed in its viv, and I have never been mistaken for food.
it is o k to feed your snake in the viv as long as you think you wont have any probs with the substrate causing impaction and sometimes it is fun to see your snake strike but it is not fun when a big snake strikes at you or misses the rat etc and when they are bigger this can become a frequent occurrence, the strike range is much greater etc
