Hi, I am intrested in breeding WWDH and am looking for some advice. I kept them a long time ago (well like 5 years) and always wanted to breed them. Anyway. I was wondering would this work.

Buying 1 female and 1 male, Keeping them together until she is pregnant. Then seperating the male off. Letting the female raise the babies then keeping the male babies with the dad and female babies with the mum so they dont have a population explosion.

Would something like that work?

Obv there is always a chance of fights which is what I was wondering when introducing babies to the dad.

Hmmm lots to think about.

Oh right yeah, he wont know them as his babies will he. Hmmm. I dont want to breed more than once as pet shops dont take Hamsters so they? And they are hard to shift so im going to be left with them. Will mum get on with the female babies and will brothers live together? Becuase if they will then I only have dad to worry about being alone.

Your advice was great thanks.

i have a friend who breeds them,

if you leave the pair together, dad will help to raise the babies ,and apparently you get a better socialised hamster.

sounds mad but it works............

have you tried looking for a small independant petshop? you may find one of those interested in having a few spare babies from you, as the delivery charges from the big suppliers for a small order of hammies is very high,
you wont make a fortune though!

OOh cool. I would be happy for them to go for free to a petshop or individuals its just that I would wonder if someone nasty got them or is not careing for them lol

Also I herd that if you leave them together the father will mate with her soon after she gives birth and thats what I dont really want. Then I go from up to 7 babies (which i could handle if nobody wants them) to up to 14 which would be to many.
