Saw a post in the classifieds stating that a male snake for sale had been checked for sperm plugs and was ready for breeding. How do you check for sperm plugs, what are they and any other interesting info about them would be good. Thanks :2thumb:

They are plug of sperm that build upinside and in front of the inverted hemipenes.

You can check for it by popping or even just applying a small amount of pressure it will often come out. Sometimes it comes out when the snake sheds.

Thier presence means the snake is mature enough to breed, however, they are no guarantee that the snake WILL breed.

I have had 2 male royals not start breeding until 3 years of age and another at 2 years that hasn't figured it out yet, though they have been producing plugs probably since before 6 months of age.

I have others that have bred at <1 year.
