I always handle mine in the evening/at night before I head to bed so as not to disturb them too much.

Our 3 dont come out in the day, sometimes i see them in the morning when i get up but there just going to bed. Then they come out towards the evening, your best bet is to wait while they are awake on their oen terms and dont pick them up when there sleeping.

my male doesnt come out in the day unless he's woken and startled by something like the next door neighbours drilling for oil next door, in fact i rarely see him before 9 or 10pm depending on how dark it is.

We have a few who we don't see unless its dark and who retreat if the light goes on, we have a few who surface around 8pm and we have two who are out at all different times of the day.

Essentially, crestie's are nocturnal though and i don't think i would handle mine during the day unless neccessary.
