Hi there, my girlfriend while away left her tortoise in the care of her parents. She is now back and believes her Hermann's tortoise to be showing signs of dehydration. Eyes are a little sunken, one of which appears very irritable to him and he is also noticeably lethargic. He is eating, but today she went and bought some Dioralyte to bathe him with a couple of times a day to get his hydration back up. Just wondering what the ratio is? They come in sachets and are directed to mix with 200ml of water. Is this the same when bathing her tortoise? Thanks

Im not an expert and ive never heard of Dioralyte being used to rehydrate tortoises, ive always thought that just bathing them in normal water should help, but someone else will come along shortly with a better reply for you. But personally ive never heard of Dioralyte being used for tortoises.

Just had a quick google about giving Dioralyte to tortoises and i was a bit suprised lol i guess you learn something new every day eh!

I still dont know the ratio for it but just want to say thanks for posting as its something ive learnt incase of emergency in the future, obviously as a last resort

I've heard of people having success mixing powerade or another electrolyte sports drink with water to increase hydration in snakes. I'm sure the same could be applied to tortoises. Keep them in a humid environment over night, too.
