Hi peeps, been thinking about using driftwood in the Leos enclosure, found a few nice open pieces to use as hides ..but how do I clean/sanitize them for use? I know that the sea water will have taken care of all the common stuff like moss etc through natural bleaching.

i just poured boiling water over mine a few times, then let it dry out. :2thumb:

Boil for about 10mins, or as long as you can...

then if it'll fit put it in the freezer overnight.

thatll do it.

I dont like using chemicals like bleach like some other people do because how do you ensure its completely gone and wont leach back out over time and harm the animals?

Thanks people,thought as much .Did this already but was not totally sure,I'll have to do the same with the sandstone pieces too..if they don't disintegrate!!
I've just found a nice substrate substitute for the leos too...wanted calci sand...but obvious drawbacks!!

Black kitchen towel...(wanted terracotta type but no luck on search) looks good quailty, tox free and will really bring the leo's colours out too.
