Hi I have african soft furred rats 2.1 ratio and they are housed in a nkp rat cage in with my two females and male is 5 2 and half week old pups from one of the females, obviously they are still in need of their mother, anyway the other female had a litter this morning of 10 pups, all of these pups are now DEAD! because both the females were only interested in the older pups and they kept taking the newly born pups out of the nest and now unfortunately they have all died. This is the second time this has happened has anyone please got any advice on what to do or any idea of doing it a different way, also does this mean that the female(mother) is a bad mother?
Please help any advice will be hugely appreciated

separate them, keep the pregnant mothers in their own seperate enclosure when they are ready to give birth, and only move them back to a communal setup with older generations once the pups are weaned.
