They will chew through wood and plastic so you're looking at metal only which restricts your choices a bit, otherwise when my rats pass on I would have looked for a GPR to occupy the tom rat cage, but no... he's stunning! Look at his baby chub on his face.

We built a cage from wood and wire,but put wire on inside,they actually have not chewed the cage as they have other wooden objects to occupy them.The cage is approx 4ft wide,over 4ft high,with shelf levels and 2 1/2 ft deep.
