Hi ,we are planning on breeding our leos this season and I would like to know what size box the hatchlings need to go in once they are born.I have been looking at the the Lucky reptile Braplast hinged box 3.0l ,245mm x 125mm x75mm. Are these big enough, if not what do you all use. If they are big enough how long will it be OK for? :2thumb:
I used to use these for my hatchlings but they will not be big enough for long. By the time the baby is about 3-4 weeks it will need to go into a bigger RUB. However, last year I used 9 litre RUBs for my hatchlings from day one. These are big enough to last the little'uns until they are sold at about 20g / 8 weeks. The 9 litre RUBs don't take up any more space on the heatstrip as they are about the same width as the Braplast boxes. But they are longer so it is easier to get a good temperature gradient. The Braplast boxes are also very low and it is too easy for a skittish babe to jump out.
As above, I have the 9l ones with the open fronts x
