Hi

My mum was bitten by a snake in Kenya last week (Diani, South of Mombasa).

I got a quick look at it, it was about the thickness of a finger, shiny and completely black (not a black mamba!!). I've estimated the length of 30-40cm as I only had a very quick glance before running off to the hospital.

Her leg and foot are all swollen but she hasn't any systemic effects from the venom.

I was hoping someone would be able to help me identify the snake!

Doctor seemed to think it was a night adder but they are patterned, where this snake was definitely just solid black.

Any help appreciated!

Thanks

With out a picture no one is going to be able to identify 100%.

There are a massive number of species in Kenya. Nothing jumps out at me from the description.

Someone with more knowledge will probably come a long though.
