I don't have a snake yet (Emily wont let me have one, she hates snakes) but my dads mate used to have one and he defrosted the mice in the microwave, i remember because i always found it hysterically funny when the tails exploded...

For larger items e.g. rats I leave them in he fridge overnight to thaw then bring to room temperature before feeding.

I use the warm water method, although sometimes I leave them to thaw at room temperature, depends how busy I am really.

To be honest I just buy the lettuce for my snake and feed it too him as it is, I didn't even know you could get fozen lettuce, I assume it lasts longer than fresh, is it cheaper?

I put mine in a plastic bag (to keep it dry) and submerge that in water at 30 degrees C. Then leave it for an hour or so, topping up with hot water to keep it at 30 degrees. That way I get a nice dry mouse at a temp close to that of a live mouse.
