We currently have an invasion of these fellows next door and was wondering if anyone could ID them for me so I can google a bit more info.

Thanks in advance.

either common wasps or german wasps- if they're the latter, keep away from them, as they're extremely aggressive & will swarm after people, according to a pest controller who got rid of a common wasp nest in the roof of my old house- he showed me a german wasp nest in the boot of his car, & said they post a lookout on top the nest- if anything approaches within 6' of the nest, the lookout alerts the colony & they give chase. keep away from them anyway, as all wasps are unpredictable.

You'd soon know if it was a hornet. You seen the size of those fudgers? Not only do they sting you but they also pick you up and drop you from a great height.

At this time of year the wasp nests are breaking up, they no longer have brood to feed and go off in search of sugar. Another few weeks and they'll all die off except the queens.

Damn things are pestering my beehives at the moment.
