can people tell me if this is ok or not please i have been trying to get the right temp in my royals tank its only in a flat funarium as hes only a baby .

But it has feet on it that raise it off a flat surface so the heat from heat mat seemed to not transfer the right heat to the tank

So today i found at work a cork bath mat i chanelled out the space for the feet so the cork sits flush with the base of tank i have now slid the heat mat into that gap and am getting the correct heat .

But is this ok ?

Should be fine. I assume you're using a stat.

So long as temps are ok it shouldnt matter what you do. And yea, on a stat!

Iv not had any problems with heating a faunarium though, although I dont use them anymore

I don't think it'll cause a fire, but I use a block of polestyrine instead. Apparently that's the best thing to use underneath.
I wouldn't worry about yours though.

Could it be that you're losing too much heat out of the top of the faunarium?
You could try covering part of the lid with something - might hold the heat in a bit better - another cork tile maybe?
