I just noticed this sore underneath his tail a couple of days ago and originally it looked like an open sore now it looks more like it has scabbed over.

Is this an infection ? or maybe he just injured himself somehow and it is healing up ?


any information would be greatly apreciated

ooo ya bugger that looks sore. judging from it it looks a little bit infected if that white/ yellow stuff is discharge. I would try and clean it with warm water and a cotton pad and gently rub the wound. Leopard geckos do have good healing skills but best to take the little critter to a vet. How did this happen if you know?

I'm not sure how it happend because he was being looked after my sister at the time and i discovered it when i came to take him home. He doesnt seem to be in any pain but it does look sore. I think i will try and keep it clean with warm water and some antiseptic cream.

Ooh, that does look sore. Take the poor guy to a vets, he may need some antibiotics if there's a chance of infection.

Sorry to put it bluntly but that doesnt look like just a sore that looks like a swelling thats ripped open.

Looks like it could be a prolapse. If he's on a loose substrate like sand I would take him off that (keep him on clean paper towel whilst it heals). As has been said he needs to see a vet asap.

I agree, looks similar to a prolapse. Keep on paper towels and bathe every night to make sure it's kept clean until you see a reptile vet

As per everyone else, Vets, looks similar to a case that was referred to my wife, she advised vets and the owner was good and took it straight to the vets, turned out to be a non retracted penis. A small op later and leo is fine, although not a breeder any more.

Not saying thats definately what it is, but its another option to prolapse which presents similarly.

Either way hope the little fella gets well soon

Lol. But, yes, it does look infected. The huge swelling and the discharge implies he may need a shot of anitbiotics...though I may be wrong.

Also agreed, and it may have already began to dry up, infection etc.

In the mean time (not sure if it would help the situation now) but usually a sugar water soloution on a towel soaked or something is usually advised (to keep it moist), it might help prevent anything else drying up? ontil a vet can see him I am not sure though, I am guessing a prolapse followed by something though.

Looks exactly the same (although a little worse) as a problem I had with mine. It was a prolapsed hemipine, it was removed by the vet and antibiotics.

Get it to a rep specialist as soon as you can, take it off sand if he's on sand.
