ok well i have a heatmat one end,the light on a stat the same end, hides either end. the temps are 73 at the cool end and about 79-80 at the hot end,but when i put the sensor under the hide up the warm end it was reading 96.these temps are all without the light on at all.so when i do put it on its gets a nice temp outside the hide but then reaches over 100 in the hide! any idea how i can make the temperatures more constant? its really confusing!

you need a stat on the heat mat, as stated. :p otherwise the heat mat will just get too hot and burn or overheat your snake.
