Hello, Im new and need your advice.

Ive got a 9 year herman called Tom and he seems to have developed
a problem with his eyes. They seem to be watering alot or I will find him walking round with his eyes closed like they are dried shut.
I have read many peoples threads prior to this and have tried in his daily bath to wipe his eyes (as suggested in previous threads) I havent changed his routine or anything.
He does appear to be behaving differently too. Hes currently outside with his cuttlefish for his beak. Please help I love Tom dearly and want him to be ok. I also am struggling to find a Tortoise specialist in the Leeds area!
Thank you for taking the time to read my post. Any help please!!!

Could it be the substrate he is on? Anything very dusty? Do you spray it morning and night?
Does he have a good vit. and min. supplement and calcium powder, also access to the sunshine?
Have you got a high UV of 10/12% in the indoor enclosure?
Try rinsing his eyes with warm salt water twice a day.
I would suggest if it doesn't clear up by the end of the week, you need to visit the vet. It's most unusal for a Herman tortoise to suffer anything at all, so it could be quite a serious infection.

Hi ya

Can you tell us a bit more info:

Are his eyes swollen at all?

How long has he been like this?

Is the liquid watering from his eyes clear or a colour at all?

What his substrate?

When you have bathed his eyes have you just used warm tap water?

Thanks

ETA - have you only just got the tortoise or had him for a while?

Hiya, i understand your concern. I had exactly the same problem with my hermann, but she is only 5.
I took her to the vets and she had an eye infection due to allergies. She was alergic to her bedding. She is on eye drops now and her eyes are heaps better!
A routine check would be a good idea?

I think the vets is your best bet here and the only advice I would be prepared to offer, anything else is doing the tortoise a dis service.
I hope you get on ok.: victory:
