hiya,

my friend has asked me to ask you guys a question regarding her parakeets.

She has a male and female parakeet and the female has pecked all the feathers off the male's head.

She hasn't had them very long and she has moved house recently i think, so could it be a stress thing, or is there some other explanation for this behaviour?

Do you know what species of Parakeet they are? In some, such as Ring-Necks & Alexandrines, the females are dominant over the males.

Plucking of a mate is not that uncommon amongst parrots. As long as the male is not scared pf his mate or is being injured, he will be ok. It could well be to do with the stress of moving.

we have 2 red rumped parakeets and the girl do peck his head feathers in breeding season.
They have just grown back over the last couple of weeks.
He is not scared of her or anything.
