Hi there
My 5 month old rat snake just shed again.
The shed wasnt perfect one piece ( maybe due to the olive oil treatment for mites a few weeks back ) there was an inch of tail section left on which I have since removed.
When looking at the shed I can only see one eye cap on it. The other is just a hollow.
I have had a quick look around the viv before work this morning but couldn't see the other cap. I am using paper towel as substrate and shes only in a faun so its not too difficult a task.
Both her eyes look the same though so my questions are...
Can you usually spot if the cap is retained ?
If you can't easily spot a retained cap, how do you treat / remove ?

I will have a good look around the faun tonight and see if I can find it.

Regards.

You can normally see if an eyecap has been retained if you have a decent look at the snake. The eye may appear slightly less "clear" and fresh than the properly shed eye. If the snake looks completely normal and both eyes look the same she has probably shed both eye caps.
