Im thinking of getting a 09 royal, what i wanted some info on was housing as some people have told me to go with a RUB mat and stat, others have told me a viv and ceramic or else they get RI'S.
If it helps my house is always around 17-18 degrees when the heatings off.Any advice would be appreciated so i get it right.Cheers

Babies do better in RUBs so a 4,9 or 12L RUB setup is ideal for a baby.

Boids do require warm air though and this seems to be more the case as they get older so unless you're able to provide an ambient temperature of 80-82 then you will be better off with a viv.

Thats whats been bothering me,because during th ecolder months there will be a fluctuation in air temp,with the heating on and off.But then will a viv stress them when there small.

Possibly, some royals do fine in vivs from the start, others don't...i guess you could try a viv and if it doesn't work then put the snake in a box on a mat in the viv and just heat the viv to like 78-80 so it has the ambient temps...

Plenty of hides will also help him/her feel safer and so less stessed. I keep mine in vivs - I had them in faunariums to start when they were hatchlings and stepped up the size of the viv to an 18"/20" before they moved into the 3' viv - and never had any problems : victory:
