I'm considering getting a second snake but I cant decide what to get as theres so much to choose from!
I dont want anything thats going to get too big (something that could be housed in a 4ft viv is ideal)
new snake would be housed seperate to my other snake (nelsons milk) so it getting eaten isnt an issue
any ideas?

My second was a female Royal Python, she is in a four foot by two foot by 18 inch viv, but like you say there is so much choice,go for one that you like the look of,and can comfortably home.

Ratsnakes!! Ratsnakes aaaaaallll the way! If I had a spare 4ft to fill id get me a nice Beauty Snake, or maybe Trinket snakes, id probs split the space and have 2 2ft cubes and have a pair   And if I had the money Id buy some Bamboo Ratsnakes, or something along those lines  But thats just me because I love them to pieces

But seriously, you cannot go wrong with a Beauty snake, Iv had Taiwan Beauties and have Blue Beauties now and they are fantastic. I also have a radiated ratsnake which I LOVE, these are feisty little beggars with a bit of an attitude when they are young, but I like my snakes to be a little feisty as it seems as though they still have some wild left in them, but I wouldnt suggest getting one of those as a second snake....Some are certainly not for the faint hearted

BEAUTY SNAKE BEAUTY SNAKE!!!!

I probably should add that Beauties can get to about 8ft in length......

We need more ratsnake lovers   Too many people bypass them and get corns and royals because they are more docile....pffffft!!!

If youv got the money............Which I definately haven't!!! I haven't a clue about if they are easy to look after. I should imagine that they aren't that much different from most asian ratsnakes. But its not something I have looked into because of the price tag......

I've never kept any myself, but I think you have to keep some of the asian rats at slightly lower temps - I've heard of low end temps of 78F for some, so that may be why some people have had problems.

Didn't think there were that many WC - taiwans have been around a while as have russians, and someone at Basildon had quite a few blue beauty hatchlings. I suppose there's still going to be quite a few WC of the less popular species though.

Yea they do need lower temps, which can cause problems if you house them in a particularly hot room, but if you do your research then it shouldnt cause a problem.

It is the less common species that are mostly WC, as some dont tend to breed very well in captivity, shops etc need to keep up with the demand so sell WC. There are a fair few ratsnakes that have been around long enough to provide a good amount of CB hatchlings, as you say, at the show there were a fair few blue beauties, as well as Radiated Ratsnakes, I have seen a fair amount of CB Tai's around this year, but I got my blues instead

Gotta say as far as keeping them alive in captivity,in 8 years of keeping and breeding Taiwan beauties,I have never had a problem yet(except for 1 WC female who tried to kill me at every given chance lol!)They are very easy to keep, and yes they do fair better with an ambient temp of around 78-80f.As long as you socialise them often they are fantastic captives. If your interested in captive bred specimens I do have a few of this years left,pm me if so.They have, over the years, suffered from a bit of a reputation as snappy snakes. However this is largely due to the fact that until recent years there were so many WC around. As with most species the difference in CB animals is amazing, and I find that with just a little time they become calm happy snakes. On a personal note, scarletveg, are you intending on breeding the blues?if so I WANT A PAIR!!!!!!!!!lol

Lol, I do plan on getting another female and having a trio, and yes breeding them, but that wont be for another 2 ish years yet as they are this years hatchlings
