Yes they do, its the cocoon they surround themselves in before the final change into a silkmoth. tried mass producing them - more hassle than its worth.

I used to keep indian moon moths (also a silk moth), they fed on rhodedendron which grows everywhere and avaliable all year, the caterpillars are awesome but not sure if they would be safe to feed herps on because of the their food stuff, interesting life cycle but needs space.
