i know people feed these to fish i was wondering if they would be ok for lizards? i know there are loads of dfferent types of
stick insect as i used to breed them when i was little from normal indian sticks to jungle nymphs. feedback would be ace cheers

The ones that feed on privet would be a definite no. Any that have been raised on bramble may be ok if they're non-toxic and the bramble is from a totally pesticide-free area to prevent bio-accumulation.

You'd still have to worry about the spines on them etc. Stick insects are so thin that there wouldn't be much real goodness in them. Given that people will buy stick insects, it would probably be better for your lizard if you sell them cheaply and buy a box of locusts to feed it instead, or look to trade them for cockroaches etc...

Oops didn't notice that he hadn't said what lizard it was for!!

I assume the same would apply for all insectivorious lizards though, unless you happened to have a specialised stick insect-eating species...

thank you for the reply however some sticks are quite chunky and are soft spined as nymphs. might try this to see how it goes.

is it really worth the risks? cant you buy a tub of crickets for a couple of quid instead of risking lives?

That tends to be the larger species doesn't it? It's been years since I had stick insects though...

If it is the larger species, it would be a pretty expensive way to feed a generic, non-denominational lizard!!

Privet's toxic regardless - any stickie that'd ever been fed on it would be unsuitable to feed to your herps.

Depends on how easy they are to gutload, too - if they only eat one plant and can't be convinced to eat multiple things, they might come out as less nutritious than crickets or roaches that'll eat whatever you put down 'em.

whoa steady on m8 i would never...ever put my herps at risk, i was just wondering. i am setting up afew breeding colonys of roaches and locusts and was justtrying to vary their diet!
