i am a regular on the snakes section and have no idea when it comes to amphibians.
i was recently in france on a fishing trip in the limousin region. whilst walking to the toilet in the dark i was confronted by what looked like some sort of newt. it was probably 6-8 inches long with a jet black body and had several bright yellow blotches on its back
just interested to know what it was?
any suggestions much appreciated

just looked on the web and apparently is because they would come running out of logs when they were thrown on the fire so people thought they were born from the fire. interesting

You should handle them as little as possible as it makes them stressed.
Also if you do have to handle them make sure your hands are wet before you do and that you wash your hand throughly afterwards.
