Is it possible to have too much filtration ie too great a turn over of water? My tank is 60"x18"x24" and I'm planning on keeping Tanganyikans. I have 2 fluval 404's.

you can have too much water movement, ie strong currents for still water species, but you can't filter the water too much. Different filtrations work better for different fish. If you've got a particuarly strong filter, you can direct the outlet flow towards the tank wall which will disperse the current. There's also different fittings you can put on the outlet pipes which will spread the current around, reducing the extremity of the flow. Externals are usually not too bad for strong currents and still have large water turn over so you should be ok. Spray bars help as well for dispersing the current if you think it's too strong

Agreed with above comment.

Some fish like moving water others cannot tollerate it. But you can never filter water too much.
