ive recently been practicing my photography so i can eventually enter potm so heres my latest attempt....

thats a nice photo.
I have a city and guilds in photography and can give you a few tips.

1, you can crop out all the bits you dont want in the picture like at the bottom of your pic you have part of the viv out its out of focus and distracts from the snake.

2, looks like your camera has auto focus also, that normally makes the camera focus at the center of the image, turn that off and make your point of focus the snakes eyes.

Agree with Run&Coke's comments. When photographing animals it's important to get the point of focus on the eyes. I would also say that the DOF (Depth of Field) is a bit too much and I find the plant is a little distracting. Try increasing your aperture (smaller 'f' number, such as f4) to blur the background a bit more.

Apart from these things it's a nice photo. Keep practising
