Ok this might be a dumb question to you spiderguys but Im more of a snake expert but what is hair flicking and what does it do. does it hurt or anything like that. :lol2:
flicking hairs or urticating hairs is their defense means , they flick the tiny hairs form thier adomen (thousands of them) which have tiny barbs on the end
Ive got a red knee that will flick her hairs if you move her around to much. They are the hairs on the abdomen and have tiny barbs on each one as stated but as a side note they itch like hell and some people have to take anti-histamines to stop it.You need to be careful if you have handled a T(i dont) as i have known people to do so then rub their eyes and they have major problems from urticating hairs.
Theraphosa blondi urticating hairs are known to be of the worst, so its no wonder your hands itched for days.
Hairs will be brand new again after a moult.
Vanessa flicked at me the other day she was annoyed because she wasn't happy in her viv and when i went to move her into her new viv she flicked at me, it itched for hours it got quite painfull,
she's very happy now no problems when i go in anymore
