Hi,

Included is the image of a hog nose snake. Despite hours of searching online, I cannot find a clear-cut name for the following:

  • the two openings in the throat (marked in red)
  • also that thick double bone in the middle (marked in blue)
  • and the thin slits above it (marked in green)

thank you!

i am far from an expert and couldnt find any convenient answers either. i agree with malc that the green is likely part of the jacobson's organ. though they could also be the inner rows of teeth, which would be the palatine teeth. the blue might be the pterygoid which is linked to the inner teeth. the red is think is just the oesophagus, given the way hognose snakes flatten out their neck and head i think it just looks like its split when its actually just pinched.
