would this be any good to keep a mantid in?
its 10"high 8"deep 15"wide with a mesh lid

could also stand it on end so theres more height

not sure what species i would like yet so any suggestions on a good beginner one would be a big help.

Would be fine on it's end. Put some tall twigs in or something that will bend over at the top as Mantids hang to moult. Need to make sure there is enough humidity though so you may need to cover some of the mesh top up. Look at African and Chinese Mantids for beginners.

Would be fine either way, i believe Chinese get up to 4 inches so its double its hight. However with substrate you are probally looking at tall rather than long.

Chinese and Asian mantids are the best for newbies. However chinese mantid's up to 3rd instar have a high mortality rate.

i have three of the tanks in the pic so would like to use them instead of them sitting empty

Will be fine as adults, as babys will need to go into something smaller.
