Hi all,

We recently (about 4 weeks ago) took in an adult iguana.

Eating and pooping ok!

However after a short time I noticed red mites appearing on his head, especially in the 'ear' bits.

I was recommended 'Bye Bye Mites' which is a 'spray onto host' treatment.

This works well, killing the mites pretty instantly.

However today I noticed a lot more of them back and LOADS of tiny black mites. I dont know where they came from!!

Please note that the iggy is kept in A1 conditions so its not down to bad husbandry!

So basically, what would you guys recommend as a form of treatment and protection?

We had a similar problem with our other younger iggy (housed in a different house miles away!) but they cleared up after a week or to of being treated and havent returned.

Any suggestions? He doesnt seem very happy right now, understandably!

Many Thanks

Gary

i had this problem a while back with my beardie, i tried mite off and every other reptile product for getting rid of mites but they never worked, in the end i got advice from a very good reptile vet, he told me to use the frontline spray for cats and dogs, just spray a little on your hand and rub your hands up and down the body, they will be gone in no time

i got mine at the local vets, its just over the counter stuff, i would go easy on it though as it is very strong, pretty much 2 sprays on your hand then rub your hands together, the mites will be gone in no time,, good luck with it

i know eveyone does things different but ive been told by a few rep vets that this is ok used properley, it has never harmed any of my animals or anyone elses that i know have used it, i guess its up to everyone to decide which is best, but i found it the best method
