I seem to have flying ants or termites in my corn snakes new vivarium! They must have came from either the two new pieces of cork bark or the aspen bedding (and I'm not giving up aspen as he loves burrowing in it making lots of little tunnels). I suspect the cork bark is the culprit even though it has been soaked in boiling water and nothing came out of it. A load decided to comit suicide by drowning themselves in his water bowl but no more seem to have joined the lemming-ants overnight but how can I treat the wood to kill any that are in there? The wood is too big to fit in the oven and I'm concerned that bleach will soak into the wood and not rinse away properly and harm my snake.

Take the snake and water bowl out of the enclosure and spray it with phenothrin, it is available as a reptile insecticde supplied by Callington. You can put the snake a water back in after 10-15 minutes and your problem should be solved. This is the same product as they use in aircrafts in tropical countries to stop the spread of insects carrying disease.

Where can I find it to buy? Tried google but it isn't bringing up any stockists.

On closer inspection, I think they are some kind of beetle...they have jaws so aren't a weevil and seem to have wing covers. They're about 3-5mm long with short antennae.
