ive got a Brachypelma Albopilosum (Curly Hair) an its ready to be permenently housed my question is are they burrowers i thought they were but sum you tube vids keep them on less than an inch of substrate so have they got it wrong or have i ? plus any body know weres there any vids or pics that show how the habitat should be thanks :blush:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rMJ17-7XK9w
 
As far as I'm aware they're not fossorial but yes they do have a tendency to dig, my vagans slings all have and pretty much live underground. That said they do spend a lot of time sat out on top so I think the idea is to give them enough substrate to dig if they want to, plus all the usual things they need
 
I didn't think they were burrowers. Although I have T's that are suppose to be terrestrial and still decide to make a nice complex burrow. Any terrestrial T I may get, I would aim to provide a good few inches, maybe a bit deeper at one end, so they could burrow if they ever wanted to.
 
If you don't provide enough substrate the tarantula has no choice whether to create a burrow or not. Most tarantula will seek a hide, whether it be a burrow, crevice, hollow tree or webbing.
I found B. albopilosum, which inhabit the rainforests of Honduras and Costa Rica, burrowed as slings but gave up on the burrow as they neared adulthood. I kept mine off dry, found them easy to rear and suffered no losses.
