As far as I know if they are still heating properly then they are fine. If they stop heating thats the time to pop a new one in.

how long is the typical life of them?

 

Prob the same as a light bulb u never know

 

Ive heard about 3-5 years use depending on how hard you make the bulb work.....

I've had some ceramics last less than a year , but also have some now over 6 years old , pulse stats will prolong the life of a stat over a convensional on/off stat

 

We had the same ceramic in our iggy enclosure for around 5 year and it still worked fine and the ceramics currently in our boa vivs have been there for 2-3years and still going good.They are all on puls stats.

 

They don't have a 'shelf life' no.
