How common is it for corn snakes to double clutch? I am soon to breed my 450+ gram female and am preparing everything in advance just in case, would she lay a second clutch soon after the first or can it be at any other time of the year?

i have a proven adult snow, I got her september 2010 and she went in with my male snow 2 weeks ago but she is heavily gravid so she must have retained sperm she was last bred almost 12 months ago with her last owner so has held the sperm back for almost 12 months so it could be soon after it coule be a year after
Would it not be a good idea to seperate her from the male if she's going to lay soon then? And is it not possible that she's gravid from mating with him?

Very common. All of my corn snakes that I used to breed double clutch as do my hognose snakes.

If you want to guarantee it then make sure that the male is back in with her several days after laying but there is still a good chance of a second clutch due to retained sperm. The choice as they say is yours.
Yeah I've read on another forum that as soon as someone's female lays, they put her back in with the male to make her lay again, personally I wouldn't want to do it that way as I'd want to make sure she was healthy and strong again, if she double clutches by herself then so be it :)

She is going into her pre lay shed so very doubt full after 2 weeks. The male hasn't been with her for days now.
Ah ok cool, good luck with your eggs :)

I don't think I'll reintroduce her to the male this time round, if she does happen to lay a second clutch, whether infertile or not, at least it may give me a rough idea as to what she may do next time she breeds.
Also, to save me from making another thread, is it 'safe' to pair them up if they've eaten recently or is there any risk?
