Green anole died :(

I came home today after a weekend away to find my female green anole dead. I'm really upset. I left on saturday afternoon after misting the tank and watching both lizards take a drink (she shared with a male green anole). There was plenty of food and food for the food, and their UV light is on a timer.

My housemate was left with instructions to mist the tank twice a day, I stressed the importance of that because they don't use their bowl and it's been getting pretty hot in the mid afternoons.

I came home, and the first thing I did was look in to the tank. The leaves were bone dry. Doug looked fine, glared at me and turned brown. I searched for Jade and found her in the ivy next to her favourite basking spot. There are no injuries on her, she's still bright green, and she looks like she just went to sleep. Her legs were stretched out like she does when she's pretending to be a branch. The only odd thing was her eyes were really, really sunken in her head. Could she have died of dehydration? It looks like the spray bottle was never moved. Could she possibly have gotten that dehydrated in 2 days? Like I said, Doug was fine but he's a lot bigger than her, about the size of a small mouse compared to Jade who was about the size of a small pinky, just a bit longer (she was approximately 7 months old).

I don't think Doug had been bothering her, I never saw them really interacting. There were plenty of hiding places and basking spots. I did briefly suspect she wasn't eating but she wasn't emaciated, just not exactly fat either, and there was plenty of food around. There was literally no sign anything was wrong with her when I left, she was bright green, had her active moment but mostly hid in the fern or the ivy.

Also, this may sound totally heartless (I am pretty broken up but also thinking practically), I've put her in the freezer for now. If she did die of parasites or some illness that didn't show any signs, will the freezer kill that off? I have a corn snake that won't eat anything not anole scented...and...well, I'm sure you know where I'm heading with this...

its unlikely to have gotten dehydrated after two days. how hot is the tank how you heating it?
are you talking about feeding the anole to your snake? or am i being stupid.

unlikely to parasites unless you noticed a change in her condition, sounds environmental.
i have lost one recently due to overheating, which is easily done while your out cos the windows/doors arent being opened and closed, especially when there in a hot room.

Not that hot, the room temperature probably gets to about 28 at a guess for about 3 hours on a sunny day. It's not uncomfortable, just a but warmer than the rest of the house. Their hot spot is no hotter than this, the stat is set to 28. She was high up near the bulb when I found her but she didn't look like she'd gotten stuck or anything, looked like she'd just gone to sleep and slipped off her branch. The ivy leaves had caught her. I'm so upset, I havent had her that long and it took a lot of trouble tracking down a female. I'll keep a close eye on the male but he seems perfectly fine.

(also yes, I'm talking about feeding her to a snake)

just a suggestion if you think about it if your room gets to 28 it could have ruined your cool end temp, this is what happened to me. i was recommended to not have any heating and just have a UV bulb cos my room being 28 was fine for them. cool end needs to be 23-24 so if your rooms 28 it could well have been the case. you say not that hot but it doesnt have to be that hot, if your cool end wasnt cool it could well have been that. i was there when mine died and it stared up at the bulb and then jumped off, eventually died in a box when i took it out.

i was very up set too, but its not hard to overheat this species. as i said just a suggestion, theres no way i can tell or you with out a post mortem.

your other one being ok is not proof that this wasnt the case

Sorry to hear this has happened. I know how hard females are to get. I've been after one to go with my male for over 3 months now.
