for a Leo you don't really need to drill inside the enclosure, as it doesn't need to be massively strong, just build a miniature table of some kind, or buy one, ebay can probably find some kind of free standing shelving or very small table, which you can just put inside and then add a maybe some branches to allow your leo to climb up

 

Hmm im not sure what kind you mean would have to be pretty small, just assumed it would be quicker and easier to try put a shelf in lol

yeah a shelf would be easy enough of course, if you have some basic DIY skills, just put the leo in a secured shoe box or something for the few minutes it would take to install

 

Had a little look on ebay cant see much, may look in b and q get a shelf, need measurements etc before i do lol

I use THESE for putting up shelves in my vivariums. I know this particular link is of no real use but it at least shows you what they look like. I can't remember where I got mine and I can't seem to find any online. It only takes 5 minutes to screw them to the shelf and then screw that to the inside of the vivarium. I would just pop the Leo in an old shoe box or something while you do it.

Pine is seemingly bad for reptiles so you will need to coat that with something first. Maybe best asking in the habitat section or waiting for someone with more knowledge on the subject to pop by.

 

yep as above, give that a good few coats of Zero-VOC varnish before using it!

pine contains Terpenes, "volatile organic chemicals", highly reactive chemicals which interfere with biological processes, causing all sorts of problems, respiratory problems are the most common in reptiles

 

Oh no good anyway just tried its about a inch to big for my tank, i thought it could be, so maybe i could get a corner one or if anyone can find me a shelf on amazon just under two foot about 18 inches and none pine so i dont have to varnish it would be amazing ( iv looked but i dont wana make the same mistake and get the wrong one again lol)

 

Unless i could sword or slice i inch off unsure if it would be safe then

don't worry to much about it, as long as its varnished it'll be fine (zero VOC varnish, your local DIY store should stock it, the label will tell you if its zero VOC, other wise search "zero VOC varnish" on ebay and you will find lots of options)

 

B and q dont seem to have it ;/ i need either a new shelf now or to cut down this one by about a inch or just over, could that be safe or not?

Ok thanks everyone, il have to cut it down i just cant seem to find that exact varnish just comes up saying varnish not that specific one, all that comes up is non voc! They all seem to say its better none voc

 

No VOC, None VOC, VOC Free, Zero VOC, its all the same, just slightly different wording

(the only one to watch out for is low-VOC, which does have some VOC's, and varnishes which don't mention VOC's at all and usually contain significant amounts)

 

So no voc is what i want, i looked on b and q and wickes and all have low or even high voc :/
Varnish will cost more than the shelf lol

I've measured ours and the dimensions fit the ones in the product description and it's about 15/16 cm high. I don't know why it mentions 6 cm further down!


It's a nice size for a leo, and she seems to climb up it using the step with no bother, we also put a large exo terra home slightly underneath it to form another step, she also goes on top of this as they're quite flat on top.

There is loads of stuff in the Trixie range, luckily our local pet shop sells a wide range and we've got a few different stuff.:2thumb:

 

Oh thats great so its just got measurements wrong, thanks for measuring it, i think il order it, so i could maybe put a hide on top? I have a rock so she. Can climb that just hope she can get up from the first level to the second, al the reviews were for guinea pigs not geckos lol, so i could fit a hide underneath too, she would like it just hope she doesent fall!
P.s is the lenghth and width right measurements , so in a two foot tank its nearly as big as the tank in all ways but height

Yep she manages fine from the fist level to the next one, and the large exoterra home would break her fall if she did fall off, but we have never seen her come close to doing this!

You could always stick big lolly sticks (or tongue depressors) horizontally onto the sides to create a lip to stop yours walking off the edge- but as I say Alfie never has.

And yep the sizes are right. :2thumb:

you could use the off cuts from the shelf, on the back of the viv, so that the screws don't stick out
