Misting systems

Iv recently got a panther chameleon which I keep in a 4ft x 4ft x 2ft viv. I find that spraying the tank dried out very quickly so needs misting by hand multiple times per day which is probably easy if it's kept inside but as its out in my reptile shed its a bit more awkward

So I have been looking at automatic rain/misting systems, firstly I was looking at the monsoon rs400 which looked perfect but after reading some reviews found a lot of people had them go wrong, so I was then looking at the mistkong which look more reliable but are more expensive.

I plan on using 2 nozzles on my chameleon set up and adding 1 to my theroposa stirmi 3ft x 18" set ups

Any opinions on these systems or others which may be available would be much appreciated
Thanks

As far as I am aware the issue the exo terra monsoon was the timer failing and exo terra fixed this issue unless you've come across any new reviews still talking about the problem?

There's very little to a misting system, they're not complicated things and you could easily DIY one.

I know they're out of stock right now but here's another cheaper alternative: Swell Reptile Rain System - Terrarium Humidity | Swell Reptiles

I've got a mistking myself but have replaced the nozzles with an irrigation kit from ebay that cost about ÂŁ10 so I now run 8 nozzles. The mistking nozzles have mesh filters in them that block up easily if you use tap water. The cheap ebay irrigation nozzles have no filter so tap water doesn't block them. My mrs needs a misting kit and that swell one is probably the one she'll have having.

I am guessing the swell one is just on or off looking at the button on the top so would need to be connected to a digital timer.
Shame they are out of stock swell have 15% off ending tonight

Yeah, most of them require the addition of a digital timer. Best to get one that offers seconds so that you've got room to experiment with what works for you. A minute of water can be too much depending on substrate and enclosure size.

Hi, I have a mistking system connected to my day Gecko and crestie vivs. I have a microclimate Evo operating it. Never had any problems with the Mistking, you can have the Evo programmed to mist upto about 8 times a day. Only ever used RO water, so heads won't clog up. There was some on here that had a problem with the Mistking timers but Mistking have revamped their timers. Make sure if you buy a Mistking that you ask for the newer kits, they look really good, depending which kit you buy as they have timers and hydrometer fitted for different keeper needs.

Mixed thoughts on using RO with reptiles. I decided against it. I believe you can buy inline prefilters though which should get around the nozzles blocking. No idea if the filters can be cleaned or whether they have to be replaced.

There is so much bad stuff in the environment, just look at the state of the planet, i will only use RO until someone on here who knows what they are talking about tells me different. Tap water has so many chemicals in it to make it safe for us, then you can buy more chemicals to make it safe for reptiles, I don't think so. Rain water can't be any better there's no filters in the cloud's, look at all the solid fuel still being used around the world. I know some use RO as it keeps your glass clean, but I think my reptiles get enough minerals and vitamins from all the powder feeds I can buy so I will stick with RO.

The above is just my opinion about using RO.

read this thread yesterday and the MISTKING timer actually malfunctioned AGAIN but this time I was home for a change when it occurred. this poor performing crap is going in the bin and may buy the suggested timer mentioned here.
can't fault the misting system itself tho, perfect for my needs.

I never said RO was unsafe for people to drink, if I had access to RO on tap I would drink it, some states in the usa already supply it as tap water. How can filtering all the crap out of water be bad, if they did the same to our food there wouldn't be much on the shelf's in any of the shops. At the end of the day you could use bottled water which still has minerals in it or RO but not tap water that would be cruel to your pets even our cat drinks filtered water.

Not heard of any problems with the mistking timers, mine has been fine but I've had many generic timers from DIY shops fail. Binned 2 this year where the screens died when I came to change the time when the clocks went back/forward whichever way it was.

Which version of the timer did you have? I can see there are 2 now.

What happened with your mistking timer?

I have the first one you link to.

occasionally when one of the settings starts it keeps the current going through it even after the set time has elapsed. poor equipment these type and maybe a reason for the new ones on the market!!
