This is my first ball python i've noticed a problem with his nostril in the last few weeks, i can't seem to find any information on his symptoms. Its really worrying,i havent managed to get him to feed since i got him 12 weeks ago. His nostril is crusty and blocked with a white substance, please help!!!!

is he due a shed or just had a shed ?

sometimes a piece of shed can get stuck in a nostril.....

simply give the snake a bath and hold it's head under the water for 20 to 30 seconds at a time, this will dislodge anything stuck up there

it could also be dried mucas from a respiritory infection,

symptoms of a respiritory.....

whistling/wheezing sound when breathing

mouth gaping open a little and throat slightly puffed

excess mucas in mouth and sometimes nostrils

i would give it a bath clean the nostril up and see how it goes

wheezing/bubbles from the nose or mouth/popping noises/liquid stringing together in his mouth/opening or "yawning" alot/holding his head upright for long intervals......these are all signs to look for of R.I. ......hope it isnt this though and its to do with his shedding : victory:

last few WEEKS!? that doesnt sound good...

follow the advice as above, tho i wouldnt hold its head under water. maybe encourage it to submerge its head, but not for too long...
30 seconds is a long time for something with only one lung!!!?

and get your chap down the vets if it dunt come clean.
respatory infections can be fatal. proffessional advice is always best!

Good luck

you won't be able to coax a snake to put its head under water, you have to do it for it

snakes have " evolved " into having 1 main lung, its not like us humans, having a lung taken away and struggling to breath with only 1 lung

i've seen carpet pythons with mites submerge COMPLETELY under water for 5 or 10 minutes

you will do no harm to the snake also vets will tell you the same thing.....

to clear a nostril you need to submerge a snakes head under water, until you see bubbles blown out the blocked nostril
