Hi folks,

I'm a little overwhelmed with lighting options for Leopard Geckos and would really appreciate it if someone could help me out. I want to provide our leo with a UVB light, and have already ordered a 2.4% UVB kit from Acardia based on recommendations I had seen online. However, when I brought up the topic with someone else, they recommended a UVB with a 7% output, and now I feel more confused then ever haha.

Our gecko isn't coming home for another 6 weeks, but I want to get the lighting down before bringing him home. He is an Afghan Tangerine, and my plan is to use Acardia's natural supplements (without D3) and so I need to provide a UVB source to make up for this. The vivarium is 4ft long, and 38cm tall. He will have decor within the viv that will allow him to get closer to the UVB source if he so desires.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I was told that there should be a gradient, and that the UV light should be around half the length of the enclosure. My plan was to connect two of the 30cm Acardia UVB strips together, to cover 60cm out of the 120cm length. Would this be okay?...

But do you know if I can switch out the bulb that comes with the kit (this one) I already have to a 7% one, since the wattage (8w) is the same?...

I dont have the receipt, and it cost me €50 at the local reptile shop D:

I also plan on leaving calcium w/o D3 in a bowl in his enclosure, and following the feeding routine listed on Acardias site, since I'll be using their supplements.

I'm not expert at all an still learning to be honest so all my answers are from what I've been told. The uvb that you are looking at can be switched out for a 7% bulb if they sell one the same size as the fitting. I pretty sure they do but you would have to double check. Also having reflectors on either side will help beam the light down into the Viv rather than it spreading everywhere else to.

I have a Leo in a 3 ft Viv. He was adopted and he has never had a properly light, heating or calcium. I'm surprised he is still alive. He doesn't like much light at all in his face as he has always been in a dull place so I have a small uvb covering one half of his Viv. Again he doesn't like the light in his face but he has been leaving his tail, foot or sleeping half in and out of the cave.

With regards to how long it should be, I'll wait to see if someone else replies. If not I'll contact my friend for you who have had them for years.

would it be acceptable if the UV was more towards the cool end of the viv? I ask because I have the habistat reptile radiator over the hot end to bump up ambient temps so don't have room directly over the hot end?

My viv is 33 inches long X 15 inches deep x 15 inches wide.
