Hi,

Kinda new on here, so hello! I lurk often though, and i have a question for you good people.

I have 3 snakes - two male Royals and a female corn. I've had the boys about a year and the girl a little less than that. I'd like another snake, and I've sort of fallen in love with a blood python I've seen. She's an adult, and from what i understand comes froma home where she wasn't handled much. She hisses and strikes when you go into her viv, but doesn't seem to calm down once she's out, has struck at me while ive been holding her. I was wondering if anyone has any tips of how to calm her down, or even if you think she will.

Thanks in advance!

S.x.

I'll be honest I had one just like that and she never calmed down, she was pure evil.

You're better off buying a young one and handle it regularly from the start or buying an adult that is used to being handled and already calm. That way you will have a very placid snake which will make an adorable pet.

At an adult they will be hard to calm down and may never do so.
If your willing to give it a home and respect it for what it is then fair play, but personally I'd go with a baby and try and bring it up with it being accustomed to handling.
Good luck regardless of decision :)

calming down a hatchling or young python is reltively easy with persistence, a large aggressive adult is a lot more difficult, and my NEVER calm down, also any bites suffered will be a lot more painful and damaging.

Flip side is that with persistence you may get a great snake that handles really well!!! I think it's half the fun.... Most CB bloods do tame down very well. You can also get hatchlings that won't ever calm down as well.

I'd say, if you like the snake and prepared for the eventuality that she may never calm down, and willing to keep at it, then get it and good luck to ya!!!

Bloods are awesome snakes and very rewarding.
