Ive read a lot of conflicted information regarding size of boas. They seem to range anywhere from between 6 - 12 ft long.

I want a boa, but dont fancy the super large size! Ive heard you can "conservativly feed" them once they reach a reasonable length but was curious how reliable this is.

Say for arguements sake i was to buy a male, feed it conservativly, say every 10 days. What size could i expect it to reach?

Cheers

I don't know if you should call it preparing for the "worst" but you should certainly be prepared for the largest. I'm a great believer in genes and that there can be a great variation in size no matter what your feeding patterns are.

I have no experience with Boas, but I've read Vincent Russo's the complete Boa Constrictor and he says Boa lengths are greatly exaggerated, he says female common boas (colombian BCI) very rarely exceed 8ft, he said he's personally measured hundreds of Boas and not 1 has come close to 10ft. But people on this forum seem to say different. I'm just playing devils advocate. Could it be that a lot of Boas are powerfed?

Thats not true.

Just look in the pictures section here, there are load of 6ft to 10ft boas in there, and then look in the classiified, there's at least a couple of 9ft boa's for sale, and this just a UK site.

Have you considered a dwarf boa? Depending on locality these can top out at 4-5ft give or take...but certainly not 10ft+.

I have to admit mind, i have heard a few times boa sizes are often exagerated and 10ft+ boas are a rare thing. I've always considered 8-9ft an average for the maximum a female might achieve...of course, some will go over this.

I believe that a Morph will grow roughly about 8ft... Whereas a common can exceed this.
I took my Male Pastel to Cold Blooded as I'm sure most of you know it here... and they told me that he was 'going to be a big boy' so perhaps if you did purchase whatever sex you decide on, then you could take it there when you feel he/she is getting big and they can slightly determine for you on the future if you like.

It depends on the snake itelf doesnt it?! I mean humans are an average of 6 foot. But there are people that get over 7 feet.
I want my female boa to max out at 8 foot. cos the space i have for her will only alow a 7 foot viv. What about a BRB or a royal?
I think the red tailed boas are the boas that average over 10ft anyway. Think the commons average about 8 - 9ft.

I don't believe you have a 12 foot boa. Show pictures with a tape measure please. Oh, don't tell me, your camera is broken or you can't post pictures or you'll get some photo's up soon? You don't have a 12 foot boa, stop exaggerating, it's boring.:whistling2:
