Hi

I found this product called Sanirept, which you brush onto your torts shell. It is basically caryophyllus oil that is supposed to keep their shells healthy. It is an antiseptic, bactericidal and fungicidal agent. It also fights saprophyte, protozoan and repels parasites. That's at least what it says on the box.

Anyone has used it before or heard anything good or bad about it?

Tortoises dont need anything on their shells. All they need is to have them cleaned while in the bath, with tap water. Oil does not keep them healthy, it can cook them under a hot sun.

It is absolute rubbish and simply designed to line the pckets of the seller unfortunately. In the wild, tortoises would not come into contact with any oil unless they were extremely unlucky. Oils stop the shell from thermoregulating, can cause shell rot and therefore make way for parasites moving in etc rather than repelling them.

Hi there
I always ask people to think about what torts would have in the wild, if it's even remotely unlikely, then don't do it. They have lived for millions of years without our help so there's not a lot we have to do for them, other than offer as close as possibly what they would get in nature ;)
